GEO320™ MRH™ mastic roller hybrid warm mix WMA asphalt bitumen technology from renewable resources, is the future of bio-asphalt™ road paving. In 2005 the Asphalt Industry celebrated 100 years since the invention of roller compacted asphalt the same asphalt we see on our roads today. Following those early pioneers, Ecopave Australia is proud to introduce a product called GEO320™ MRH™ Mastic Roller Hybrid asphalt bitumen for road paving, GEO320™ MRH™ is environmentally eco friendly, revolutionary breakthrough adhesives technology made from non petroleum based low molecular weight, water soluble raw materials derived from renewable resources. GEO320™ MRH™ bitumen is manufactured from sugar, natural rubber (latex), tree resins, gum rosins, lignin, cellulose and edible vegetable oils and materials such as molasses waste, palm, coconut, peanut, canola, oils etc and potato and rice starches. GEO320™ MRH™ Asphalt is made using MM Micro Mastic Matrix technology developed by Ecopave Australia™, what this means is that asphalt application thicknesses from 1mm ultra thin surface coatings to 200mm full load bearing road constructions are now possible with the largest stone in the asphalt mix not having to be greater than 10mm in size. GEO320™ MRH™ bitumen is also made from the fractional distillation bottoms waste acquired from recycling used motor oils, in other words bitumen can now be manufactured from non-petrochemicals, food stuffs and plant materials as well as from petrochemical raw material sources to convert these into stand alone road grade bitumen equivalent eg, CL320, 600, multigrade or pigmentable bitumen.
GEO320™ MRH™ Asphalt Bitumen prototype has been tested by RTA South Australia since 1996 and RTA NSW in a line marking situation, passing AS4049 road marking Standards, Boral Asphalt field trial since 2000 and benchmark tested to AS2008, against Shell's CL320 residue bitumen by ARRB Transport Research in 2002. GEO320™ MRH™ asphalt and bitumen has been proven to have very high durability, fatigue, solvent, cracking, rutting, and skid resistance, the MRH asphalt has imbedded glass spheres for reflecting light for road safety. GEO320™ MRH™ comes in dry granulated form no hot storage is required and is non fuming, GEO320™ MRH™ asphalt is compacted at low temperatures Warm Mix Asphalt or WMA, and the aggregate mix in GEO320™ MRH™ asphalt can be made from alternative rock sources eg, recycled crushed brick and cementic concrete to preserve our natural rock reserves. The inherently lighter color of GEO320™ MRH™ asphalt helps combat the "heat island effect" and reduce climate change due to global warming caused by green house gas emissions. In view of the global move towards environmentally friendly renewable resources and sustainability, GEO320™ MRH™ will make a positive contribution not only to the health of asphalt workers in the road paving and construction industries but also to the reduction of green house gas emissions and recycling.
GEO320™ MRH™ Warm Mix Asphalt and Bitumen contain several performance innovations eg, its non-toxic, comes in a dry granulated form, requires no-hot storage, has high durability, resistance to fatigue, wear, cracking and has low volatile emissions and fuming and very high solvent and anti-skid resistance. The GEO320™ MRH™ Asphalt surface is also highly skid resistant with low heat absorption characteristics, has light reflecting surface in colored form due to imbedded glass spheres and colors. Ecopave Australia™ has also developed the Bio-PaveTM adhesives technology which is based on the GEO320™ adhesives technology and is a polymer alloy adhesive binder for the use in Asphalt and Bitumen as a PMB replacement, and a binder additive for use in Cement, Concrete and Masonry pavings and bricks, paints and protective coatings especially in road line marking applications and general purpose adhesive formulations. The interesting thing with Bio-PaveTM is that if a portion of up to 60% is used as a binder replacement substitute in conventional cement concrete paving and bricks, it will help reduce the high CO2 emissions in the paving brick manufacturing stage and help our environment with no loss in the concrete performance. GEO320™ asphalt bitumen is fully pigmentable, the micro mastic matrix is also highly resistant to rutting, cracking and penetration from liquids such as fuels, acids and water. Recycled plastics and reclaimed tyre rubber can also be added the coloring system which Ecopave Australia™ has developed is also highly resistant to wear and weathering.
